With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Dorotha Jannine Petrel-Watkins, a cherished member of our community, who, after only 74 years left this world peacefully yet too soon. With the time she was given, Jannine lived a full and vibrant life, surrounded by the warmth of friends, family, and the occasional furry pet.
Jannine's journey was marked by love and resilience. As a skilled educator, Jannine spent her early years raising her family and working within the Southern School District before later starting her own flea market business which she loved and continued to work well into her 70s. For the better part of her last year, she bravely fought against her failing body, never losing her determination, spirit or smile. Her legacy is carried on by her beloved son and daughter-in-law, Trevor and Michelle Petrel, and her treasured grandchildren, Henry and Camilla Petrel.
She is also survived and carried in loving memory by her brothers Eric and Tim Bentz, as well as her nieces Carla (Stan) Holter, Lori Bentz (Tony Berry) and grandnephew Henry, and grandniece Sarah (Roy) Brinker and great grandnephew Weston. She was preceded in passing by her first husband Ben Petrel and her second husband Bob Watkins, as well as her parents Duke and Dorothy Bentz, sister Nancy Scarbrough, sisters-in-law Pam Bentz and Ruth Miltiades, and mother-in-law Addie Petrel. Her presence will be deeply missed by many friends and loved ones from her church community and the flea market community that she was so passionate about.
Jannine's memory will forever be a beacon of love and joy to all who knew her. Though her time with us was far too brief, the impact of her kindness, generosity, and unwavering strength was beyond measure. She will be terribly missed by all who knew her.
A celebration of Jannine's life will be held Saturday November 23 at the First Baptist Church, 340 East Main Street, Pomeroy, OH at 11:00AM, where we will gather to honor her remarkable life and the love she so freely shared.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Jannine's name to the ASPCA, PO Box 96929, Washington, DC 20090-6929.
