Roger Lee Brewer, of Gallipolis, Ohio, has gone to his eternal resting place at the age of 76 years young. Roger courageously fought cancer with the love and support of his devoted wife Maria, Daughter Anna Marie, Son-in-law Michael Craft, and Grandchildren Kirsten and Justin Craft, along with many other family and friends, including his church family.



Roger is preceded in death by his son Roger Lee Brewer Jr., his parents William “Willie” Brewer and Recie Brewer, his brothers John Henry Brewer and William “Bill” Brewer, his best friend Paul Spry, and his beloved In-laws John E. Mendez and Mary Louis Ramirez Mendez.



Roger leaves behind his devoted wife and caregiver Maria Magdalena Mendez Brewer. His daughter Anna Marie (Husband Michael Craft), Granddaughter and Sunshine Kirsten Craft of Kalispell, Montana, his grandson “Best Buddy” Justin Craft of Norfolk, Virginia, his brother Allen Ray Brewer and his loyal fur friends Rocky and Jay. Roger loved his 11 extra brothers and sisters he attained when marrying Maria. Each of them held a special place in his heart as did their spouse’s and children.



Roger served in the United States Army from 1965-1968. After earning his Basic Parachutist Jump Wings, he joined the Army Airborne Brotherhood before serving a tour in Vietnam as a Crew Chief and Door Gunner for the 155th Assault Helicopter Company. He earned 16 Air Medals with “V” for Valor, a bronze star, a Vietnam Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Aircraft Crewman’s Badge, and a Vietnam Campaign Medal. Roger also served in the WV National Guard. He was a member of the Gallipolis VFW Post #4464 where he enjoyed spending time with his fellow brothers in service.



Roger earned his Associate Degree in Social Services from Southern WV Community College. He worked for Columbia Gas of WV, in the coal mining industry, long wall representative, and as an Environmental Service Director before retiring. Roger enjoyed working with his hands. He shared this gift by writing, drawing, and fixing and building things for others.



Funeral services will be 7:00 PM Tuesday January 30, 2024 at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home with Pastor Harold Benson officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 5:00 PM until the time of service. Graveside services with full military honors provided by VFW #4464 Honor Guard will take place at Forest Lawn Cemetery, Peck’s Mill, WV, 1:00 PM Wednesday January 31, 2024. The repass will be at Calvary Baptist Church, Chapmanville, WV.



The family has requested those who wish to express sympathy to consider donating to The Gallia County Hometown Veteran’s Banner Program through the Ohio Valley Bank.
