William Edward Armstrong, affectionately known as “Boney Bill Armstrong”, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 4, 2024 at Cabell Huntington Hospital in Huntington, West Virginia. As he departed this life, Boney Bill was surrounded by many loved ones.
Boney Bill was born in Gallipolis, Ohio on October 21, 1939 to the late Aurilla “Peaches” (McWhorter) and Alonzo Armstrong. Boney Bill came to know the Lord at an early age at Union Baptist Church in Blackfork, Ohio where he was a member and praised the Lord through singing in the Choir at a young age.
Boney Bill began his career early in life, working for Jim “Bill” Robinson and at Quaker State, as an automobile mechanic. He later devoted many years to Bob Evans Farms Plant where he proudly retired. On a warm summer day, you could find Boney Bill socializing with friends at the Gallipolis City Park and Riverfront. Boney Bill never met a stranger and enjoyed hobbies like watching Ohio State Football, hanging out at the golf course, detailing his cars, listening to music, and spending time with family and friends.
Boney Bill is survived by his sister Hattie Armstrong-Reed; his children Tanya Armstrong- Lewis (Mac Bouyer) of Gallipolis, William “Billy” (Andrea) Armstrong of Gallipolis, Bruce (Fawn Blevins) Galliamore of Blackfork, Ohio, Twana Fisher of Blackfork, Ohio and step-daughter Christie Cremeans of Bidwell, Ohio. He is also survived by his many grandchildren, great- grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren whom he treasured, his nephew Christopher “Pete” Anderson and special friends Stanley Robinson, Freddy Howard, and Steve Henderson.
In addition to his parents, Boney Bill was preceded in death by his wife and the love of his life Kathy Armstrong whom he adored; Grandmother Hattie Williams; daughters Terry Armstrong-Holland, and Tina Cooper; sons William “Big John” Armstrong Jr. and Tony Armstrong.
Boney Bill was loved and respected and will truly be missed by family, friends and community. Calling hours will be held at Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home in Gallipolis Ohio on Friday January 12, 2024 from 11:00 am. with the funeral following at 1 pm. , with Pastor Christian Scott officiating. Burial will be at Pine Street Cemetery immediately following the funeral. Pallbearers will be: Matt Cooper, Austin Lewis, Jordan Armstrong, Rylan Armstrong, Tyler Fetty, and Joshua Peck. Honorary Pallbearers: Zachariah Lewis, James Griffin and Keith Lewis.
