Text

With heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we announce the passing of Ruth E. Greene on May 26, 2025, at the age of 83.

Born on August 16, 1941, to Hortense “Heart” Rathburn and Marion Everett Rathburn, Ruth was the heartbeat of a large and loving family. She was preceded in death by her devoted husband, Roy “Gene” Greene, with whom she shared a rich and enduring partnership, and by three sisters, one brother, her beloved grandson Shawn E. Roush, and great-grandson Drake E. Roush.

Ruth’s legacy continues through her children: Christina E. Barrett, R. Wayne (Tammy) Greene, Kimberly M. (Charles) Kearns, Karen T. Valenzuela, and M. Diane Kearns. She is also survived by her cherished sister Sally Josephson of Columbus, Ohio; her special nephew Scott Greene; and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family—each of whom she loved dearly and held close to her heart.

A woman of strength, warmth, and unwavering love, Ruth was known for her passion for reading, her beautiful gardens full of flowers and herbs, and her entrepreneurial spirit as the owner of several businesses over the years. She found joy in the simple pleasures of life: picnics with family and friends, evenings of porch sitting and above all, spending time with those she loved. Ruth was the center of her family, a guiding light whose love brought people together and whose presence made every gathering feel like home.

Her door was always open, her smile always welcoming, and her heart forever generous. Ruth E. Greene was truly the soul of her family—deeply loved, dearly missed, and forever remembered.

A celebration of Ruth’s life will be held later with details to be announced by her family

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you take a moment to share a memory, plant something beautiful in her honor, or simply gather with loved ones—just as Ruth would have wanted.
