William Elias “Bill” Griffith, age 82, of Gallipolis, died Thursday December 14, 2023 at Holzer Medical Center. Born May 7, 1941 in Hemphill, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Edgar and Rosia Fraley Griffith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by his first wife, Ruth Ann Hazlett Griffith, a son, William Timothy Griffith, brothers, Ed Griffith, John Griffith, and Melvin and Calvin Griffith who both died in infancy, sister, Viola Ireland, and a granddaughter, Amy Jo Mannon.
Bill was a United States Navy Veteran, serving during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a well-known carpenter and worked and retired from Holzer Clinic. He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church, Gallipolis Elks Lodge #107, and Cliffside Golf Course.
He is survived by his wife, Kitty C. Davis Griffith, son, Robert Griffith, daughters, Karla (Keith) Baker and Shana (Jason) Booher, a brother, Harrison Griffith, sisters, Marguerite Robie, Ann (John) Vanhorn, Shirley Turner, and Charlotte Craig. Grandchildren, Jeremy Griffith, Laura Ann Humphreys, Austin Baker, Aaron Booher, Beth Fuller, Bruce (Samantha) Moreaux and Matthew Moreaux. Also surviving are several great grandchildren including, Lorraine Moreaux.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 1:00 PM. Wednesday December 20, 2023 at St. Louis Catholic Church with Father Thomas Hamm officiating. Burial will follow in Centenary cemetery. Family and friends may call at the Waugh-Halley-Wood Funeral Home on Tuesday from 5:00 PM and concluding with the Elks Memorial Service at 8:00 PM. Military Funeral Honors will be presented at the cemetery on Wednesday by the VFW #4464 Honor Guard.
Pallbearers will be: Bruce Moreaux, Matthew Moreaux, Robert Griffith, Austin Baker and Aaron Booher. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Jason Booher, Keith Baker and Danny Vance.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Gallipolis In Lights, PO box 339 Gallipolis, OH 45631 a project that Bill enjoyed and helped with for several years.
