Paul Dean Niday, age 86, of Gallipolis, died Thursday morning March 2, 2023 at his residence. Born June 1, 1936 in Green Township in Gallia County, to the late Victor Paul and Margaret Donnally Niday. In addition to his parents, he was preceded by a grandson; Garrison Ray Baker; sisters; Martha Ann Bibler and Kay Niday; sister-in-law; Mary (Walker) Niday; father and mother-in-law; James Wilford and Gertrude (Bane) Evans; and brothers-in-law; Charles Dean Evans and Paul Watters.

Paul Dean is survived by his wife of 63 years; Phyllis Jean (Evans) Niday; daughters; Kimberly Anne Halter, Lynne Lucretia (Charles) Stewart, and Gwynne Catharine (Gary) Baker; grandchildren; Josh (Natalie) Halter, Jared Halter, Justin Halter, Marie Catharine (Adam) Brooks, Joe Stewart, Ryan (Megan) Stewart, Greg Baker, and Genna Baker; great grandsons, Reece and Julian Halter; brother, Victor Joe Niday; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jerry and Ruth Ann Evans; sister-in-law, Joyce Walters; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

He attended Centenary Grade School and graduated from Gallia Academy High School, attended the Ohio State University and graduated from the University of Rio Grande, attended Rupert School of Auctioneering and became certified.

Paul Dean was raised on a dairy farm, did some auctioneering, was an instructor of Ohio History and Biology in Gallia Academy Senior High School and served as assistant advisor to the science club, later he was hired as a chemical analyst at the Goodyear Plant in Apple Grove and M&G, he retired in 1998.

He served as a 4H advisor for many years, served two terms on the Gallipolis City School board, served two terms as a Gallia County Commissioner. He became a member of Ohio Chapel Church in 1961 where he served as a Sunday School teacher. In 1971 he transferred his membership to the Centenary Methodist Church, where he served on various committees thru the years.

Funeral services will be 2:00 PM. Monday March 6, 2023 at the Centenary United Methodist Church with Pastor Harold Benson officiating. Family and friends may call at the church on Monday from 12:00 PM. till 2:00 PM. Burial will follow in the Mound Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be the grandsons.
