Russell R. James, 85, of Gallipolis, passed away, at 6:29 p.m. on Friday, August 5, 2022, at his residence. Born September 13, 1936, in Gallia County he was the son of the late Rush F. and Martha Mclaughlin James. He worked for the Union Barge Line and then worked for the Gallipolis Developmental Center where he retired from. He was a member of the Gallipolis Nazarene Church, he was a 64-year Master Mason of Morning Dawn Lodge #7 Free and Accepted Masons of Ohio, and a member of the Kanauga Gun Club.
He married his wife Virginia L. Bennett James on April 16, 1957, in Letart Falls, Ohio and she preceded him on December 24, 2013.
He is survived by his daughters, Teresa (Randy) Martin, of Crown City, and Donna (Gary Watters) Woodyard, of Gallipolis, grandchildren, Nathan Drummond, Heath Drummond, Lindsey Drummond, Joey Woodyard, and Jodi Woodyard, great-grandchildren, Brayden, Kendin, Jaxson, Jayden, Olivia, Lilli, Kaydin, and Kenlee. A brother, Richard D. (Mary) James, of Gallipolis, a sister, Virginia (Bill) McKinney, of Gallipolis.
In addition to his parents, and his wife, he is preceded in death by sisters, Daisy Sims, Mary Lewis, an infant sister, Florence Ann James, a brother, Roger James, an infant brother, Charles Fletcher James, sister-in-law, Rosie James, brothers-in-law, Frankie and Donnie Bennett, nephews, Mark Sims, and Mark Bennett.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, in the Cremeens-King Funeral Home, with Rev. Eugene Harmon officiating and interment will follow in the Gravel Hill Cemetery. Gary Walters, Randy Martin, Heath Drummond, Michael Taylor, Brandon Harrison, Joey Woodyard, will serve as active casketbearers, Randy James will serve as an honorary casketbearer. Masonic funeral services conducted by Morning Dawn Lodge #7 F.&.M. will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m, at the funeral home.
