American Legion Feeney-Bennett Post and Unit 128 held a Thanksgiving dinner Wednesday, thanking fellow veterans and handing out two awards throughout
the evening. Steve Houchins received the Legionnaire of the Year award, and Jack Coughenour received the Legionnaire of the Decade award. Both of the
awards were given by Presenting Adjutant Roscoe Wise. According to brief biographies read by Wise during the presentation of the awards, both men served
in Germany for a time while enlisted. Houchins received a jacket and Coughenour received a plaque.

GALLIPOLIS — The Ohio
Highway State Patrol is investigating a head-on collision
between two vehicles that
occurred Tuesday morning
on State Route 7 near Skyline
Lanes, resulting in three individuals being evacuated by emergency medical choppers.
According to OSHP Gallipolis
Post 27’s Sgt. Jason Roe, troopers received the call to investigate the collision at 5:35 a.m.
Richard White, 38, of Bidwell,
was allegedly driving a 1992
blue Dodge Dakota. The second
vehicle was reportedly driven
by Jeanette Springer, 56, of Gallipolis. She was in a white 2007
Toyota 4Runner SUV.
“Unit One was (allegedly)
going southbound on (State
Route) 7. That would be Mr.
White,” Roe said. “Unit Two was
northbound on (State Route)
7. That would be Ms. Springer.
Unit One traveled left of center,
striking Unit Two. (Unit Two)
tried to drive off the right side
of the roadway to avoid the
collision, but the vehicles still
struck.”

NEW HAVEN — A new
police cruiser has been received
by the New Haven Police
Department, Mayor Charles
Yonker announced at a recent
town council meeting.
The Chevrolet Caprice was
ordered from Mark Porter Auto
in Pomeroy in early June. The
mayor stated it will soon be
ready for service.
Council members confirmed
during the meeting that an
increase in the water deposit
fee is in line with Public Service
Commission (PSC) guidelines.
During the meeting on Oct.
22, council voted to increase
the water deposit from $100
to $150. The members were
advised at that time to seek the
PSC guidelines for increase. It
was learned the PSC allows an
increase of two months of the
average monthly billing. The
current average in New Haven
for two months is $200, so the
increase is within the limit,
according to Recorder Roberta
Hysell.
Three building permits were
issued, including Chris Thomas
to replace a wood deck; Elton
Clevenger to replace a shingled
roof; and Pam Elias to replace a
roof. A fourth permit requested,
to move a 1989 mobile home
into town, was denied.
In other action, the council:

These “pallets” are too small and
not strong enough to be used as
commercial-grade pallets. In fact,
companies report that they appear
to be aluminum extrusions that are
covered by the orders but have simply been welded together in a pallet shape. Chinese producers and
exporters also appear to be avoiding the duties by making minor

among others, have occurred only
after AD and CVD duty collection
had begun and are undermining
the effectiveness of the AD and

The domestic industry has

Furthermore, if it is wrong to

give evil a chance to work with an
advantage, then why is there the
legalization of formerly illegal drugs
in some of our states? Obviously,
the advantage given and taken
is opportunity under the law to
openly practice immorality.
Nick Lachey was disappointed
that Ohio voters turned down legalizing marijuana, but reasoned that
“change takes time.” His conclusion on the vote is reflective of the
liberal progressive’s mindset that
time will effectively bend people’s
feelings to give chances to practice
evil advantageously.
If it is wrong to give evil a chance
to work with an advantage, then
why has the gambling business
been legalized by law? All it has
done is allow people to become
legally addicted. All it has done is
to allow children to become legally
poverty stricken. All it has done is
to allow people to legally thumb the
nose at the providence of God.
You see what we are up against
in these desperate days? We are just
as wrong as the president’s plan
in that, in many ways, we either
support, or are uncaring about,
giving evil a chance to work with
advantage.
The Scripture warns, “Whoso
rewards evil for good, evil shall not
depart from his house.” In other
words, if we continue to support
giving evil a chance to work with
advantage, evil will consume everything.
God help us.

It is inevitable that people are
going to disagree about certain
issues. Sometimes such disagreements are going to be rather sharp.
But they do not have to be an
excuse for an unloving attitude. If
Jesus was able to pray, concerning
those driving nails into his hands,
“Father forgive them,” (Luke 23:34)
then we can learn to be a little more
patient toward those with whom
we have disagreements.
The second great commandment, in all of Scripture, is this:
“Love your neighbor as yourself.”
(cf. Matthew 22:39; Leviticus
19:18) Jesus, in the parable of the
Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37),
taught us that we should understand neighbor rather broadly: it
most certainly includes strangers
and foreigners, even those of a different culture and religion. But it
also includes your literal neighbors:
those who live next door to you, or
in the same community. And if you
have trouble loving the one beside
you, it is well worth asking how
well can you actually love the one

White’s passenger, Kami
Griffith, 35, of Letart, W.Va.,
was also flown to the same

injuries. Springer allegedly
was trapped in her SUV and
had to be cut from the vehicle,
according to Gallia County 911
Dispatch records.
“We sent a trooper from the

W.Va.) to try to get a witness
statement from (White) and
to obtain a blood sample. We
felt like he might be under

White allegedly refused all
drug test requests. Troopers
have since acquired a warrant
and have sent a trooper from
the Gallipolis post to retrieve
a blood sample from White.
Pills of an unknown kind were
allegedly discovered on White’s
person and the Huntington
Police Department was sent to
investigate.
