"May I Cut In?"

... editorial&

By Woyue G. Braadllladl, M. D.

Courtesy Pays Dividends
l!f IS always a delight to

be served by
the employees of any business with
•urteous attention. regardl@sS of the
Ilk• of the purchase or the type of sert1re demanded.
We can look about us and see busi·
nesses that have prosr•ered by the attention they give to the little things like a
smile and a little conversation .
Not long ago we were in a place of
business when a young lady waited upon
us for a trifling item. She greeted every
customer in the vicinity with some con·
.eroation and an over-present smile .
American housewives often come
home from a hard day 's shopping complaining of the rudeness of sales clerks.
but she does not really suffer much.
She should go to Russia where party
membe.-. stand behind the counter. and
due to the lark of competition like we
have ln America, treat• all comers with
1 snarl. There the state owns and runs
everythina, and all establishments have
their full share of discourtesy and indif·

ference.
The great value of the American
tern is the fact that bu&iness is competitive. and all of the success of a business
Is dependent upon service that makes
