legislature adjourns.
Abbott told the board he had
two speclftc Items to discuss "Why were the pay checks held
up when they should have been
issued Feb. 2oth" (this was bus
drivers pay) and Smith replying
that the drivers could pick up
their checks when they turned in
their books and time cards.
Abbott replied, "Isn't this a
deviation? I understand the books
normally are tW'ned In only once
a year at Christmas time. •• Smith
answered the books were not
completed then - several ol the
bus drivers stated they could not
turn their books in as they were
to be kept on the buses at a 1 1
times.
Julius Matheny, a bus driver, asked wilY the checks were
for only one day when the way
the drivers figured, they had
five days pay coming. Smith replied that the drivers did not
perform thefr In-service trainIng while on the work stoiJI)age
and so couldn't be paid for something they didn't do.
Mau..a,y ltated the driVII'I had
accumulated time and asked
Smith why the in-service trainIng was held at Wahama durIng the stoppage Instead olin the
bus garage as usual.
Tom Roach, head mechanic,
stated he guessed the only realOll for the Wahama session was
because the drivers up there
were the only ones working.
The argument continued on and
on. Smith wanted to know why
the in-service was not on time
cards and Abbott wanting to know
wb,y it was important now and
it never was before.
Abbott accused Smith of
changing rules as he (Smith)
saw fit with Smith replying 1
- 'The d!Uerence is I am &lperlntendent and yw are not."
Abbott k e p t inferring all
thrwgtl the session that since
the work stoppage many rules
had changed pertaining to the
bus drivers. Finally this line of
quesdons and answers stopped
- aUU lllliiUWered.
From bere the dlacuaaion
moved to the matter ol wages.
Abbott requested a meettna with
the board or IIUpel'iJtenden when
they kMw wbat monies would be
available for next year to dlseuas the matter ol ngea.
Board &na1dent Earl Keefer 1nformecl Abbott that two
meednp would be held In
March, one on the 11th and the
other would be a statutory budget merthg around the 20th.
He allkecl Abbott If he would

11th meeting was too soon to

the otber meetfng, beiDg Btatutor)t, would concern only the

bott replied that If this were

Smith's reasoning, then he cwld
see no point In a conference between them and he (Abbott) wwld

By this time It was apparent that Abbott was thoroughly dlagusted with the way the
