Taxpayer's Bill of rights•.. _ _____,________Se_n.--=-Ja_nM_._Lo~ni
A bill of rights for Ohio
taxpayers lhat will spell out the
rights and obllgatlons of lndlvld·

Department of Taxation (Senate
Bill 1") was approved without
dissent Tuesday by the Senate.
In cases of an audit, the bill
would require the tax depart·
ment to provide persons being
audited with a written explanation of the procedures and their
rights and responsibilities.
It would also require the

department to appoint one or
more problem resolution officers
to assist with a written explana·
tlon of the procedures and their
rights and responsibilities.
I believe the bill takes a
positive step toward finding a
way for taxpayers to question the
tax department without having
to go to the eJtpense of hiring aCPA or tax attorney.
Senate BUI 147 now goes to the
House of Representatives for
consideration.

In how the funds are distributed.
The Ohio Senate Education and
Retlre111ent Committee has recommended financial assistance

to primary and seco.ndary
schools Increase $110 million
over what the HouseofRepreaentatlve requested.
Also, there wW be modttlcatlons In the funding formula to
enhance the share of dollars
bela& allocated to rural IICbool
dlltrlcts. In the comlna week,
during budget deliberations In
the Senate Finance Committee, I
wUl continue to search for
revenues to aid our schools.
The Senate this week passed

Eddie Kantar is a bridge-expert
writer with a sense of humor. His latest book, "The Best of Eddie Kantar,'

Sorry, but it's not really true. In bfs
